Joan M. CallahanSeptember 18, 1930 - December 23, 2006 nee Hilpisch
Joan went home for the holidays to spend Christmas with Jesus on Dec. 23, 2006. She was 76 years old. Joan was one of the first heart transplant recipients in 1987. She was born on Sept. 18, 1930 in St. Paul, MN, attended Sacred Heart School and Church and was a graduate of St. Agnes High School. She worked at the 1st National Bank of St. Paul until she met and married Jack in 1953. She spent the rest of her life being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Joan enjoyed going to movies, reading books, going to the casino, golfing and spending time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered as an outstanding cook, baker, and “domestic engineer.” She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Margaret Hilpisch. Sister to Thomas (Kaye) Hilpisch and Judy (Patrick) Dooley. Survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jack, and their children Thomas (Dorothy), and his children Jackie, Jenny, and Joan, daughter Colleen, son Patrick (Mary) and their children Katie, Matt, and Maria, son John (Susan) and their children Michael and Elizabeth, daughter Maureen (Daniel) Van Sloun and his children Alli and Nicole, and son Daniel. Great-grandmother to Shawn, Zachary, Julia, and Jacob, as well as many nieces, nephews, and countless friends. The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to all the doctors and nurses at University of Minnesota, St. Joseph’s Hospital, and Southview Acres Transitional Care Facility. Robert St. @ Arion, West St. Paul and also 1 hour prior to the Mass at church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
