Guiding our community through the sharing of life's experiences

Elizabeth M. Delmont

June 25, 1905 - November 01, 2008

Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, & Great-Great-Grandmother

"Betty" was a special friend to many. Age 103 of West St. Paul. Betty ended her long journey peacefully surrounded by family on Nov. 1, 2008. Loving mother of Virginia (Bill) Klingner, Sylvia (James) Hamer, Mary Elizabeth (David) Kosowski, and Joseph (Roberta). Survived by 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Samuel; son, Richard; great-grandchild, Tony Kosowski; great-granddaughter, Diane Hamer; brothers, August and John; and sister, Fanny. Born in Basel, Switzerland, June 25, 1905, to Mary Binder and Johan Widmer. Betty came to America in 1922 and became a citizen in 1940. She is the definition of an ideal immigrant: She played by the rules, learned the language, worked hard, raised an incredible family and never blamed anyone for any of life's hardships. Switzerland's loss was America's gain. Betty was admired for her complete dedication and devotion to her disabled son, Richard, until he died at age 49. She and Sam were instrumental in developing special care and housing for Cerebral Palsy victims like Richard, who was affected at birth. She cared for Richard and helped others with a kindness, a smile and a good humor that became her trademark. We'll miss her. Thank you to the young men and women in Iraq who prayed for her. And to all of the kind people at the Alterra Sterling House residence in West St. Paul, who helped her in her final days.
