Monica Olsen

Of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota and Oak Grove Village, Florida died Monday, March 9th at Haven Hospice in Chiefland, FL following a brief illness. She was 78. Monica was one of 13 children born in St. Paul, Minnesota to Charles and Mary Wildenauer. While growing up along the banks of the Mississippi River, Monica graduated from St. Matthew’s Catholic Church School and Humboldt High School in St. Paul. She was a proud member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Mendota, Minnesota for 55 years. Monica was also a nearly 30 year member of St. Emily Catholic Church in Emily, Minn., and at the time of her death, a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Williston, Florida. Monica’s gifts included needle arts such as sewing, embroidery, knitting and crocheting. She was a summer organist at St. Emily’s Catholic Church in Emily, Minnesota, for almost 20 years and a substitute organist at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Williston, Florida, where she also enjoyed arranging altar flowers during her winter stays in Florida. Monica generously shared her calligraphy and cookie baking skills with a wide circle of friends. Her working career included clerical and accounting jobs at a variety of places, including West St. Paul Independent School District 197 and the Gillette Company, Inc. She was preceded in death in 2004 by her husband of 50 years, Eugene Olsen. Monica and Eugene met when she was 15 and married after he completed his military service during the Korean War. Together they built the home in Mendota Heights where they raised their four children, who now cherish their memories of the woman they called Mom and Grammie; Nancy Olsen of Hastings, Minn., and her sons, Erik Skweres of Bloomington, Minn., and Karl Skweres of Tampa, FL Karen and Dennis Voyles of Bronson and their daughter Annie Voyles of Clinton, South Carolina; Mark and Deb Olsen of Nerstand, Minn., and their daughter Dawnae Sexton, her husband Luke Sexton and grandsons Jaelyn and Matthew Sexton all of Kenyon; Susanne Olsen of Inver Grove Heights and Jeff Jerikovsky of South St. Paul. Survivors also include; sisters Muriel (Richard) Gill of Maplewood, MN, Charlotte “Penny” Foster (Guy) of Bemidji, Minn.; brothers Connie Wildenauer of Oakdale, Minn., Corky Wildenauer of St. Paul, Minn.; devoted sister-in-law and life-long friend Elaine Wildenauer of Bloomington, Minn.; many nieces and nephews, and cherished friend, Karen Brown of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.

Funeral Information

Mass of Christian Burial 12 Noon Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the HISTORIC CHURCH OF ST. PETER, 1405 Sibley Memorial Highway in Mendota. Visitation from 4 to 8 PM Friday at JOSEPH S. KLECATSKY & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1580 Century Point (Yankee Doodle Road @ Coachman Road) in Eagan. Interment Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
