Leonard J. Waldock

Of Inver Grove Heights

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, August and Cecelia; and 11 brothers and sisters. Survived by loving wife, Helen; daughters, Adria (Lawrence) Smentek and Helen C.; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Kirstin), Joseph (Katie), Amy and Jedediah Smentek, Patrick and Cody Kaluza; sister, Eleanor, of Bakersfield, CA; and faithful friend, his dog, Misty.

Leonard was an employee for the MN Department of Agriculture for 30 years as supervisor of the Grade A Milk Inspection Program and the Interstate Milk Shipment Program. Leonard was also an active member of the Church of Saint Patrick as a Eucharistic Minister and Lead usher for 30 years. He served as the area representative for five parishes on the Arch Bishops Appeal, receiving an award for the most improved area. Leonard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Past Grand Knight of Council 3659 and Past Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree MSGR Ravoux Assembly. Also a member of the VFW Post #295 and the American Legion #0424.

Leonard served 42 months straight in battle in the South Pacific as platoon leader in the 19th Infantry Division in New Guinea and the Philippines. His platoon was the first unit to enter and free Manilla in World War II. While in the service he was awarded the following: Good Conduct, Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and a Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII. After retirement, Leonard loved working in his garden, walking his dog, and most of all, spending time with his beloved family and friends.

Funeral Information

Mass of Christian Burial Friday, 9:30 AM at the CHURCH OF ST. PATRICK, 3535 E. 72nd St. @ Clayton, Inver Grove Heights. Visitations Thursday 4-8PM, with a 7 PM K of C Vigil, and Friday 1 hour prior to Mass ALL AT CHURCH. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
