Dr. George J. Germann Jr.August 27, 1914 - July 01, 2008 Long-time New Ulm resident
Who lived in West St. Paul with family for the past 2 years, died on July 1, 2008 at the age of 93. Dr. Germann grew up in Freeburg, Illinois where he worked as a coal miner for several years during his youth. Dr. Germann moved to New Ulm in 1946 from Chicago & practiced optometry in New Ulm & Mankato. Dr. Germann served on the New Ulm city council for 16 years, he was president of the Lost Dog & Fox Hunters Club for some 20 years, a Cub Scout Master, taught gun safety for 25 years & was a long standing member of Burg’s Battery, a civilian artillery unit of Civil War vintage. He was also a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus in New Ulm. He is survived by his wife, Cecelia; children, Frank (Joanne), Joseph, Fredrick & Helen Curtis all of West St. Paul, Robert of Los Angeles, CA & Mary Sue of New Ulm; 15 grandchildren; & 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral InformationProcession leaving 9:15 AM Saturday, July 5th from WEST FUNERAL HOME, 1051 South Robert Street @ Arion in West St. Paul for a Mass of Christian Burial 9:30 AM at the CHURCH OF ST. JOSEPH, 1154 Seminole Avenue @ Butler in West St. Paul. Visitation from 2 to 4 PM Friday at the funeral home. Graveside Service 2 PM Monday, July 7th at the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery in New Ulm.
